Interactive Art Exhibition for Children July 15-Aug. 25

The College of Central Florida Webber Gallery will present the children’s interactive exhibition “Framed: Step into Art July 15-Aug. 25 at the CF Ocala Campus, 3001 S.W. College Road.

The exhibition, recommended for children ages 5-12, encourages creative play through re-creations of famous works of art.

Children will have the chance to ride a giant chicken attached to a wagon when encountering the artwork “Big Chicken” by Clementine Hunter, Louisiana’s most famous female artist and folk art icon. Visitors can also set up camp in the Canadian Rockies by stepping into John Singer Sargent’s painting “Camp at Lake O’Hara.”

“We selected this exhibition with our early childhood education curriculum in mind, which revolves around the notion that play is essential to early learning and healthy brain development,” said Dr.  Jennifer Fryns, CF dean of Arts and Education. “Please join us for a few delightful hours filled with creativity, where your children will hear us say ‘please touch the art!’”

The public is invited to the opening reception Saturday, July 15, from noon to 2 p.m. The gallery will also host Family Art Day on Saturday, Aug. 12, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Participants are invited to create an exhibition-themed art project. Admission is free. “Framed: Step into Art” was created by Minnesota Children’s Museum and supports the National Standards for Art Education.

The Webber Gallery’s summer hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Thursday through Aug. 4. The gallery will also be open July 15 and Aug. 12 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information or to schedule a group visit, call 352-854-2322, ext. 1664.
