Dr. Mimi Gerstell Presents "Perspectives on Mars" at CF
Feb. 22, 2018 — The College of Central Florida’s Science Department will host a talk entitled “Perspectives on Mars” from Dr. Mimi Gerstell Wednesday, March 28, from 12:30-1:45 p.m. in the Webber Center, 3001 S.W. College Road. Tickets are not required and entry is free.
Gerstell, who holds degrees from Harvard and California Institute of Technology, will address the problems of making the Martian atmosphere habitable for life, and her discovery of a distinct class of avalanche scars on Mars. Her talk outlines this and several other investigations which she led or followed. Gerstell was formerly the head of the Department of Engineering Sciences at the Jensen Beach Campus of the Florida Institute of Technology and researched at the planetary science section at Caltech for 15 years. Her book, “Fish Stories by a Scientific Nobody,” treats Mars, the earth’s oceans and tectonic plates, and extrasolar planets in the same vein.
