As a current F-1 international student at the College of Central Florida, you must maintain your status by following the requirements listed below.
Register for 12 credit hours in the fall and spring semesters.
You must register for at least 12 credit hours in the fall and spring semester. Nine credit hours must be on-campus class, and only one, 3-credit online hour class may count towards your 12 credit hour minimum.
- Hybrid courses that have mandatory on-campus classes are considered "on-campus" classes.
- You are not required to take summer courses, unless summer is your first semester of enrollment at CF.
- In some circumstances, students may qualify for a Reduced Course Load. For example, students who are graduating, or have a temporary illness or medical condition, may take less than 12 credits. See your Designated School Official (DSO) to request a Reduced Course Load. Dropping below 12 credits without prior approval will result in your I-20 being terminated.
Be aware of the program end date on your I-20.
If you need additional time to complete the requirements of your degree program, you must apply for an extension before the program date. Once your program end date has passed, you must exit the U.S. within 60 days, or transfer to a bachelor degree program, either at CF or at another college of university.
Do not participate in unauthorized employment.
Whether it is an internship, on campus or off campus, paid or unpaid, all employment must be approved by CF International Student Services. Do not begin employment or accept employment until you have been approved.
Purchase student health insurance.
You are required to be covered by health insurance, either from Insurance For College Students, IFCS, or an approved alternate policy. You are required to be enrolled while you are enrolled at CF, and if you participate in Optional Practical Training.
Have a valid passport.
You must have a valid, unexpired passport. If you renew your passport, submit a copy of your new passport to CF International Student Services.
Update your contact information within 10 days.
This includes your physical address in the Ocala, Florida, area, your telephone number, your email address and your emergency contact information. Update your information by contacting CF International Student Services within 10 days of changing your address.
Know your tuition and fee payment responsibilities.
You must pay your full tuition and fees by the due date specified on your course registration schedule each semester that you are enrolled. If you fail to pay your full tuition balance by the due date, you will be removed from all of your courses. If you are not enrolled during the semester, you will be considered out of status, your I-20 will immediately be terminated and you will be required to depart the U.S.
Know your status is a non-Florida resident for tuition purposes.
All F1 students are considered non-Florida residents for tuition purposes. While enrolled at CF, you are not eligible for in-state tuition. Tuition for out-of-state students is $421.88 per credit hour.
Get your I-20 signed before you travel.
If you plan to travel outside the United States, bring your original I-20 to CF International Student Services and have a Designated School Official sign page 2 (or page 3 for older versions).
Know the requirements.
Failure to follow the above requirements may negatively impact your F1 visa. Students who do not follow the above requirements, may be considered out-of-status and possibly result in the termination of the I-20. If you think that you are out-of-status, please contact CF ISS immediately. It is your responsibility to follow all requirements of your F1 student visa, including requirements listed on page 2 of your I-20.
